Conspiracy Theories About Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting Incident

It was 14 December 2012 when the appalling ‘Sandy Hook Elementary’ shooting incident took place. It was the deadliest mass shooting at high schools and grade schools that have ever been recorded in the history of the US. moreover, it is also the third-deadliest mass shooting by a single person in U.S. history.

In the incident, a 20-year-old perpetrator named Adam Lanza shot his mother to death at home and then murdered 20 students and 6 staff members at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. And later, Lanza went on to commit suicide by shooting himself in the head soon after the first responders reached the scene.

There have been several conspiracy theories surrounding this frightful incident that question or refute what exactly happened at Sandy Hook element. However, there’s no evidence to lend support to the implausible claims made by these theories. And they conflict with each other. Many sources have published articles so as to debunk the several claims presented by conspiracy theorists.

Here are some of the alleged Sandy Hook conspiracy theories.

Involvement Of US Government

Some of the conspiracy theorists allege that the incident was nothing but a hoax and a false flag operation staged by the US government. And some others argue that the politicians exploited the attack to enforce new gun control legislation or to terrorize the gun owners and survivalists.

Dentist, lawyer, former real estate agent, and political conspiracy theorist Orly Taitz blamed Obama for the attack and asked,

"Was Adam Lanza drugged and hypnotized by his handlers to make him into a killing machine as an excuse as the regime is itching to take all means of self-defense from the populace before the economic collapse?"

Talk radio show host and conspiracy theorist Clyde Lewis claimed,

"Don’t you find it at all interesting that Adam Lanza, the alleged shooter at Sandy Hook, woke up one day and decided to shoot up a school and kill children at about the same time that Barack Obama told the U.N. that he would sign the small arms treaty?"

According to the popular science news website Live Science,

"No one, regardless of what side of the gun control issue they are on, can deny that guns played a key role in the Sandy Hook killings. So the conspiracy theorists must instead challenge the claim that the attack even occurred. They believe it's all a hoax to scare people into supporting more gun control and a step toward an outright repeal of the Second Amendment."

A huge majority of evidence used by conspiracy theorists for supporting the idea that Sandy Hook was a hoax is contradictory. The definitive fact checking website snopes.com even debunks many claims regarding the alleged involvement of US government in the shooting.

A Cincinnati TV news anchor and investigative journalist Ben Swann indicated on his personal YouTube channel that Adam Lanza was seen along with another shooter. While other conspiracy theorists claimed that 4 shooters were there.

In fact, no credible evidence about the presence of additional shooters has been found.

Some conspiracy theories have even proposed claims that have focused on the claim that Adam Lanza's father was an executive with GE Energy Financial Services. As per these theories, Lanza’s father had to testify before the Senate Banking Committee with information about the Libor scandal. But as a matter of fact, no such hearings were scheduled.
