Love knows no boundaries and the unusual story of Erin and Jared proves that. They are a couple now but things were not exactly like this few year back.
The love story of Erin Anderson and Jared Harris began when Jared started liking her Instagram posts oblivious to the fact that she is in fact his friend Aaron who he rejected two years back.
Erin Anderson knew that she wanted to change her sexual orientation to become a woman from a very young age and, now 22, she has had breast augmentation, two years of hormone replacement therapy, and is hoping to undergo gender reassignment surgery in future.
When she first approached 28-year-old Jared Norris she was still living as Aaron, but he politely declined the advances. And she handled the rejection gracefully and moved on.
Erin, who is from Owensboro, Kentucky, said: "While still living a boy, I messaged Jared on Facebook saying, 'Hey, what's up'.
"I knew of him and added him on Facebook because he was cute.
"But he was having no part of it and didn't seem interested at all, so I decided not to try anymore with him.
It was two years later when Jared liked one of Erin’s pictures on Instagram - by that time she had come out as trans and a woman.
Erin said "I decided I was going to be upfront, so I sent him a message with my number and within five minutes, I got a message from him and we started talking.
Before dating Jared, she saw other people but nothing serious came about because they were afraid to tell their family or friends. According to her, they told her they really liked her but couldn't risk their family knowing that she was trans.
She said "But Jared didn't fear that, he told his family that I was trans and everything, he doesn't care what other people think. We talk about our love story and us getting together often actually, I admitted that two years prior I wanted him and now I finally have him, which we laugh a lot about."
It hasn't been an easy journey for the couple. After they went public with their relationship, within the first few months they received lots of hateful abuse and, more seriously, death threats.
The couple have been together for 2 years now and Jared - a computer science student - said that even though it has been difficult, they ignore the haters and focus on their own relationship.
He said: "It wasn't really well known that I was dating a trans woman at first, but when everyone found out, it was a big shocker. "I received a lot of death threats online with one guy saying 'I will beat you up f*** ' which kind of sucked and was depressing. "It's always the same rigmarole things like 'I hate you', 'You're disgusting', 'You're dating a dude' and other comments.
The couple said “After getting all these death threats we talked about it and decided to ignore everybody, whether they are sending love or hate.
Jared also receives some encouraging and positive messages from people "Thankfully I had some messages encouraging us and telling us to ignore the haters, it reminds us that people like that are not worth our time."
