Not everyone knows about this beautiful place, but it is the next big thing that should be on your bucket list. There is no particular time to visit this picturesque place, but it is recommended to plan around the Spring season when tulips of every color and different varieties make this place more appealing.

The Skagit valley lies in Washington, United States, and features Skagit River, Skagit County, and Lyman-Hamilton. Earlier, there was a plan to build two nuclear power plants in the valley, but due to controversy, this plan was never started.

1. Wildlife

It hosts the Skagit Birds of Winter Experience Festival. Bird Watching is another thing that you can’t miss here. The wildlife is adjacent to Skagit Bay, which lies between the mouths of the south and north forks of the glacier-fed Skagit River and is also the second-largest in the state. 

The Skagit Wildlife area covers forested uplands, agricultural land, island shoreline, and tidal mudflats. You can learn more about whale watching and Salmon here. 

2. Skagit Valley Tulip Festival

The valley is around 100kms from Seattle and has around 350 acres of tulips. It is the largest tulip fields in North America and features red, yellow, purple, and orange tulips in the festival. 

There’s no fixed place to see tulips. Every year the location changes, so make sure that you have grown through the current map location. Also, there is no fixed date for the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. Sometimes, the festivals begin from April; other times, it starts from May. 

Furthermore, you can experience this wonderful site of tulips from the helicopter. Bikers can enjoy the tulip festival while riding through the fields. 

3. Outdoor Recreation

Skagit county has different beaches ranging from wild to sandy. Other outdoor recreations here are fishing, hiking, white water rafting, boating, and Kayaking. Biking trips are preferred if you want to see the sunset. You can also take a bicycle tour during the La Conner Daffodil Festivals. 

The walker valley ORV Area has trails for motorcycle and double track trails for ATVs. While visiting a working forest, make sure that you bring the discover pass. Also, note that night riding is not allowed, and you know the fire risk before entering. 

For boating, there are over 220 miles of marine shoreline with its many bays and cliffs. It is a shoreline that includes Cypress, Samish islands, Guemes, and Fidalgo. 

4. National Parks

It has an array of State Park with a 670-acre camping park. The Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest has several historical points of interest. Two tall volcanoes Glacier Peak and Mt. Baker are thousands of feet above the ridges. The National Park has a series of small communities and comprises Lyman and Birdsview. 

The town of Sedro-valley here is popular for shopping and dining scene. It also features a range of boutiques, coffee shops, and restaurants. Mount Vernon is home to the Skagit Tulip festival and turns into a tourist destination in Spring. La Conner is famous for its friendly atmosphere and beautiful accommodation.

It has over 25 parks that cover 2050 acres and feature lakes, playgrounds, reading area, splash wall, sandpit, and other attractions for kids. Skagit County Parks and Eagle Rock Challenging Course are the main sites for kids here.
